A group of scholars from China has recently claimed that the English language is actually a dialect derived from Chinese.
Scholars from World Civilization Research Association (世界文明研究促进会) have reportedly put forward the idea that Western civilization originated from China and all European languages are mere dialects of Mandarin.
The findings, which reportedly came from over 20 years of research, was revealed during the first China International Frontier Education Summit held in Beijing on July 22-23. The association was formally established during the summit as well.
According to report, members of the group are professors from different Chinese academic institutions.
World Civilization Research Association Vice President and Secretary-General Zhai Guiyun (翟桂鋆) told Sina Online that some English words were derived from Mandarin. He cited examples such as the word “yellow,” which resembles Mandarin for “leaf falling” (叶落, yeluo), the color of autumn. He also noted that the word “heart” resembles the Mandarin word “core” (核的, hede).
Zhai used the examples as proof that English is, in fact, a “dialect” of Mandarin. He further asserted that the Chinese formed the English language, Russian, French, German and other European languages.
Professor Zhu Xuanshi (诸玄识), also a member of the group, alleged that Western civilization had to alter history to hide the fact that they are just a “sub-civilization” of Chinese culture.
He stated that unlike China, there was no history in Europe before the 15th century. Using Chinese history as a basis, the Europeans “fabricated” stories about ancient Egyptian, Greek and Roman civilizations to cover such a “historical humiliation.”
To spread the word of this “fake world history” and “restore” its truth, the World Civilization Research Association has set up offices in the U.S., Canada, U.K., Thailand, South Korea and Madagascar.
“Do not let fake, Western-centered history hinder the great Sino-Renaissance,” founder Du Gangjian (杜钢建) was quoted as saying.
The group’s assertions failed to convince many Chinese citizens who derided the association members on social media.
“Thanks, we can no longer laugh at the Koreans who claimed Confucius and Genghis Khan are Korean,” a commenter wrote.
Some Weibo users have called the members “Wolf Warrior Scholars,” referencing a patriotic Chinese movie.
